Started figure skating in 1980, age 8.  Started skating to improve her health and fight childhood illnesses, but was told that she was too old at 8 to begin.  First, a singles skater, but after 3 years she was put in the pairs skating program. Before teaming with Vadim, she'd only had one pair partner.

Only child; parents were divorced when she was very young.  Her cousin is Natalia Krestianinova, 3 time world junior pairs champion (1990-1992) with Aleksei Torchinsky
